Director Laura Schmitt
Laura, besides having two of her own, has worked with children over 14 years. She is a graduate of the University of California and still enjoys surfing, sailing, and playing with the children as often as possible.
Assistant Director Shannon Davis
Shannon began working with St. Luke’s as a Summer Camp counselor while attending the University of Houston. After graduation and a three month mission trip to Brazil she returned to run the camp and after school care office. In January 2011 Shannon began her career as assistant director.
After School Care Counselors
Our counselors are chosen based on their enthusiasm and dedication to children. All counselors hired have previous experience working with children. Because we are a licensed program, counselors must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate. Further, we background check and fingerprint each candidate prior to hiring. Most of our counselors attend college and many are pursuing degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, child psychology and other related fields. Each counselor completes at least 24 hours of pre-service training and is required to earn 24 training hours throughout the school year. Each counselor has current CPR and First Aid training, which is renewed every 2 years.
Summer Camp Counselors
Our counselors are chosen based on their enthusiasm and dedication to children. All counselors hired have previous experience working with children. Each counselor completes 2 days of training before camp begins including Sexual Abuse and Child Molestation Awareness training and Summer Camp Policies & Procedures training. Each counselor has current CPR and First Aid training, which is renewed every 2 years.
